Bhubaneswar: Hockey Gangpur and Hockey Odisha registered contrasting victories Thursday against their respective opponents in different matches of the VIIIth Hockey India Junior Women’s National Division A Championships at Bhopal.
In a Pool A match, Hockey Gangpur rode on a brace each by Janhabi Pradhan (fifth, 54th) and skipper Jiwan Kishori Toppo (sixth, 35th) to triumph over Hockey Chandigarh 6-3. The other goals were scored by Namrata Jasmin Bara (46th) and Premanjali Toppo (48th). Akshita Yadav (16th, 19th) and skipper Amritpal Kaur (8th) sounded the board for Hockey Chandigarh.
In a Pool B match Hockey Odisha scraped past Hockey Karnataka 2-1. Nimabati Singh opened the account for Hockey Odisha in the seventh minute. However, Hockey Karnataka’s skipper SR Abhinashree restored parity in the 18th minute. However, four minutes late Manju Lakra put Odisha ahead and the score remained that way till the end.
Men’s team win
Sudhir Kujur (54th, 61st, 64th) scored a brilliant hat-trick to help Hockey Odisha thump Hockey Bhopal 4-1 in a Pool A encounter of the VIIIth Hockey India Junior Men’s National Division-A Championship at Bhopal, Thursday. Pradeep Lakra (33rd) scored the other goal for the winners. Mushtak Ahmad (31st) scored the consolation goal for Hockey Bhopal.
Nishant emerges champ
Nishant Biswal emerged champion of the All Odisha Open Handicap Snooker Championship after registering a convincing 5-2 victory over Rakesh Pradhan in the final here, Wednesday.
Nishant had entered the final after thrashing Akash Mohapatra 4-1 in the semifinal. Similarly Rakesh had beaten Soubhagya Mohapatra by an identical margin to seal a summit clash berth.
