Cop accused of detaining, terminating pregnancy of minor girl in Cuttack suspended

Cuttack: Three days after allegations were raised against Narasinghpur police station sub-inspector Rabindra Nayak for unjustifiably detaining and terminating the pregnancy of a college-going minor girl, the cop was placed under suspension Saturday afternoon.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Cuttack had alleged police excess December 17 afternoon, saying that Nayak detained and terminated the pregnancy of the minor girl.

The college-going girl was compelled to undergo a pregnancy test. Later, the accused policeman got her pregnancy terminated, for which she was detained for three nights at Narasinghpur police station.

Four other police personnel from Narasinghpur police station were also arrested on the charge of aiding the accused officer.

According to a CWC official source, the minor girl had gone missing a few days back. Consequent upon which an FIR was lodged by her family with the Narasinghpur police to trace the minor girl.

After the girl was traced out, the police did not handover her to the family members. She was detained at the police station instead. No consent in this regard was obtained from the CWC which was mandatory for the police, the CWC source added.

“The prime accused Rabindra Nayak is still at large and the district police are taking all possible measures to apprehend him at the earliest,” Athagarh SDPO Alok Ranjan Ray informed.
