Berhampur: A lawyer sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly beaten up by the IIC of Buguda police station in Ganjam, Rama Chandra Biswal, on the police station premises Tuesday.
The lawyer identified as Haraprasad Das sustained injuries in his head and limbs and was admitted to Buguda community health centre (CHC).
The incident took place when Das had gone to the police station with one of his clients in connection with a case. A heated exchange of words ensued between Das and the policemen following which the policemen assaulted him. The policemen, on the other hand, accused the lawyer of admonishing the police personnel inside Buguda police station. The incident comes at a time when lawyers across the state have been agitating over assault of one of their fraternity in Cuttack August 28. Meanwhile, members of the Ganjam Bar Association condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the errant policeman in this regard. A bar association team will visit Buguda Wednesday for a stocktaking. The lawyers have threatened to boycott court works if immediate action is not taken against the guilty.
