Bhubaneswar: Police have rescued a 70-year-old man who had been kept confined in the bathroom of his own house for eight days. The man was allegedly locked up by his son and daughter-in-law at Palasuni on the outskirts of this city. Luckily the man was rescued by personnel of Mancheswar police station Thursday night. The elderly man was terrorised so much that in spite of being rescued he did not utter a single word against his son and daughter-in-law. Sources said that man was suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. It means that the imprisoned man was not provided with adequate food water.

Somehow the man managed to escape from the confinement and come on to the balcony. Neighbours informed his daughter after they saw the septuagenarian screaming for help. The daughter then informed the police.
On being informed, police immediately reached the spot. Initially they knocked on the door of the house. As there was no response, police personnel brought the man outside with the help of a ladder.
“My brother and his wife had confined my aged father in the bathroom for last eight days. My father was ailing and the couple did not give him even food and water,” alleged the elderly man’s daughter.
