Cops seize huge cache of explosives from Gunupur, three arrested

Rayagada:  Rayagada police Tuesday seized a large cache of explosives from a stone crushing unit at Sanyasipur village under Gunupur police limits in this district and arrested three persons in connection with this.

All three accused were produced before the court Tuesday, the police said.

As many as 160 packets of boosters and 70 detonators were seized from the spot. Police said that the explosives were stored for stone blasting.

“We suspect that the explosives had been kept for stone blasting. The company, however, did not have necessary licenses to keep these. The arrested men were involved in blasting in the quarry. We are questioning them to find out how they procured the explosives,” said Gunupur SDPO Raj Kishore Das.

According to a source in the police, the cops conducted a raid on the stone crushing unit of a private business acting on a tip-off and unearthed the explosives.

Later the three men — identified as Jay Paraksh Choudhary of Padmapur area in the district, M Shiv Kumar and J Srinivas from Andhra Pradesh – were also arrested.
