Cops send body on trolley for autopsy

Malkangiri: Even as the police department is granted government funds to show respect to the deceased while carrying a body for post-mortem, a corpse was seen being transported on a trolley-rickshaw in Chitrakonda area, Thursday.

According to reports, a woman of Shreehari Colony under Chitrakonda block committed suicide by hanging. Police reached the spot for a probe. However, they sent the body on a trolley rickshaw for post-mortem after completing the investigation.

The incident sparked resentment among the locals.

The government sanctions money to the police department for shifting the bodies for post-mortem. A contingency fund of Rs 6,000 has been constituted to meet the emergency need. In case of cash crunch, the concerned IIC should spend from his pocket to take the body to the hospital in a dignified manner. The police officer can later reimburse the money from police department, according to the provision.

Under what circumstances, the body was carried in such a disrespectful manner should be probed, demanded the locals.
