Counterfeit currency racket busted; kingpin held

Talcher: Acting on a tip-off, Angul police Saturday busted a fake currency racket and arrested its leader. The main accused has been identified as Brajamohan Sahu. Five mobile phones and a country-made gun have been seized from his possession.

The raid team also seized fake currencies worth Rs 3.52 lakh from a vehicle during a routine check. With his arrest, the number of total arrests has risen to three as two more culprits were arrested April 9 in this connection. The two others are – Padan Mallick and Sangram Keshari Panda.

Officials nabbed Sahu based on the information collected from the two during the interrogation.

While cops are trying to ascertain the source of the fake notes, it is suspected that the seized notes have a connection with illegal cash flow ahead of the elections, sources in the police said.

The Angul Assembly constituency will go to polls April 23.
