Khaprakhol: In yet another incident of committing a ghastly crime over suspected witchcraft, a couple was allegedly murdered at Chitikamal village of Luhasingha panchayat under Laramba police limits in Bolangir district, Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Chintamani Bariha (55) and his wife Rukmini Bariha (50). The two became prime suspects after the one-and-a-half-year old son of another resident of the village, Narayan Bariha, breathed his last August 21.
Sources said, Narayan had allegedly blamed Chintamani and Rukmini for killing his son Lucky through black magic. Narayan and other villagers had lodged a complaint at the Laramba police station accusing the husband-wife duo of killing his son.
Saturday, some people discovered that a ritual had been performed at the place where Lucky was buried. Immediately they suspected Chintamani and Rukmini of being involved in the act.
It is not known when and how Chintamani and Rukmini were allegedly murdered. Their bodies were discovered by other villagers from a nearby hill. One being informed police officials including Bolangir SP Madkar Sandeep Sampad and Patnagarh sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Suresh Nayak, reached the spot, seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.
Police said that a probe has been launched considering all possible angels and soon the culprit/culprits would be nabbed.
