Bhubaneswar: A young couple attempted suicide by setting themselves on fire following a family dispute late Friday night at Kapileswar Canal Bandha area under Lingaraj police limits area here in the Capital city. The couple has been identified as Bablu Das and his wife Janaki Das.
They were rescued and were admitted to Capital Hospital. However, as their conditions deteriorated, they were sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Saturday morning.
According to sources, the couple eked out a living by working as daily wagers. Over some reason, they had an altercation Friday night while other family members were asleep. In a fit of rage, the two doused themselves with kerosene before setting themselves ablaze.
“We are yet to ascertain why they tried to commit suicide. But, we suspect that they had a fight before taking the extreme step,” a senior police official said adding that a probe was on.
