Hindol: In a heartrending incident, an elderly couple has been left to fend for themselves after they were allegedly beaten up and thrown out of their house by their three daughter-in-laws at Magubereni village near Balimi of Hindol block in Dhenkanal district.
Shockingly, their sons also did not come to their aid and joined their wives in throwing out the elderly couple. With no help from anyone, the couple had earlier approached Ballimi police seeking their intervention into the matter 10 days ago.
However, no action has been taken yet by the police officials, it was alleged. Now, the couple has been living a life of homeless for the past 10 days.
The hapless couple Thursday approached the District Superintendent of Police (SP) and narrated their ordeal, seeking justice.
According to sources, Abhiram Samal (83) of Magubereni village and his wife Chhaya (82) have four sons two daughters (all married). Due to old age, the couple could not do any work and depended on their sons for a living. However, when their sons go out for work, their daughter-in-laws abuse and torture them both physically and mentally.
Things turned worse for the elderly couple after their daughter-in-laws Arati, Jhunubala and Sarathi allegedly thrashed the couple and threw them out of their house. They also took away Rs 12,000 cash and other important documents from Abhiram’s possession October 11.
Following the incident, the couple lodged a written complaint at Balimi police station. Though the police assured the couple of a proper inquiry, no action has yet been taken.
The couple went to their daughter’s house and stayed there. When no action was taken even after two days, they again approached the police October 13. However, the police officials misbehaved with the duo and sent them back, alleged the couple.
However, IIC Prasant Lenka said that their allegations are false. “We had called up their family members and settled the matter at our police station. Then we asked the couple to return home. If any other problem was there, they could have been informed us,” he said.
