Gania: It is a tradition to give gifts to newly married couple during their wedding ceremony. But, this couple of Gania in Nayagarh district opted to give plant saplings as gifts to the guests at their wedding ceremony.
The couple made their wedding an occasion to give back to the society and to think about and thank nature. Whoever, came to the wedding were seen leaving with saplings of different species after the wedding. It was a scene worth watching as people coming out of the marriage mandap with saplings in their hands.
It did not end there, along with the marriage vows, the couple also vowed to donate their body parts after death. They also spread awareness to people attending the marriage to donate their bodies.
According to reports, Harprasad Mahapatra, youngers on of Devraj Mahapatra of Routpada village under Belpadapatna panchayat got hitched to Surpiya Mahapatra, daughter of Dharanidhar Mahapatra of Athgarh in Cuttack district.
It was learnt that Harprasad is a social worker and has been well known among people on his area for his noble deeds for the society and people. He has also won several awards for his works.
“Wedding in most parts is just a lavish affair to show to the society. However, nothing is done for the society. So, my aim was to give a message to the society that is filled in evils like dowry and unnecessary expenses in the name of marriage,” said Harprasad adding that the idea struck him before marriage and he hopes people refrain from heavy expenses and show path to the society through small gestures.
“I am happy that I have got such a beautiful soul as my husband who always cares for people and the society,” the bride said.
