Muniguda: In a shocking incident, police Friday arrested a couple on charges of killing their three-year-old daughter at Samodala village under Ambhadala police limits in Rayagada district.
The matter came to the fore after cops under suspect arrest the couple who confessed to their heinous crime. The two revealed that the child was a ‘bad omen’. Many bad things were happening in the family and they were going through bad phase after the girl’s birth. So, they killed her.

The accused couple has been identified Jagesh Udali and his wife Reeta Udali. ASP V. Rao revealed the murder mystery before media persons at a press meet in his office.
According to the case diary, the infant’s mutilated body was found near a pond close to the village March 15. On getting information, police reached the village and launched a probe. The body was seized and sent for autopsy.
During probe, police learnt that it was a clear case of murder under circumstantial evidences. Later, the girl’s uncle lodged a complaint alleging his sister and brother-in-law of killing their daughter.
Acting on his complaint, police registered a case of murder and launched a further probe. Later, they detained the couple who confessed during interrogation.
“She was a ghost. Bad things happened in the family after her birth. So, we killed her,” the couple said. The incident has become the talk of the town as locals demanded extreme to extreme punishment for the couple.
