Bhubaneswar: The state reported 13 fresh COVID-19 cases including a two-year-old girl, taking the total number of cases to 74 in the state, COVID-19 chief spokesperson Subroto Bagchi said.
Of the 13 new positive cases, five each are from Bhadrak and Jajpur, two from Balasore and one from Sundergarh district, he said. “Contact tracing of all new cases is going on and follow up action is also being taken,” he said.
“The COVID positive girl child in Balasore is a resident of Nilagiri block under Berhampur police limits of the district.” Harishchandra Jena, Balasore deputy collector said. Jena said her sample was collected April 16, and the report was received April 20. Family members of the patient are sent to a quarantine centre, he added.
Three of the five fresh cases in Bhadrak district are from Basudevpur block and two from Bhandaripokhari, Bhadrak Collector Gyana Das said.
Following the detection of five new cases, the Bhadrak district administration Monday declared Basudevpur and Bhandaripokhari blocks as containment zones.
Detection of new cases Monday in Bhadrak took the total COVID cases in the district to eight. In Balasore, the positive count rose to three.
Out of the total 74 cases detected so far in the state, 53 are male and 21 female. Of the total cases, 46 are from Khordha district, eight from Bhadrak, seven from Jajpur, three each from Balasore and Sundargarh, two each from Kendrapara and Kalahandi and one each from Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Puri districts
Similarly, 23 per cent of positive cases are between the age groups of 41 and 60 years while 9 per cent is in the age of 60 and above.
A total of 24 patients have been cured and a 72-year-old man from Bhubaneswar died due to coronavirus. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is now 49. A total of 10,641 samples have been tested so far.
From April 19 morning to Monday morning, the police registered 54 cases across the state for violation of different regulations and guidelines related to COVID-19 of which 50 cases are for violation of the lockdown norms, three cases for rumour mongering and one case has been registered for other related issues. As many as 57 persons have been arrested for different violations during the past 24 hours.
