COVID-19 cases in Ganjam district breach 1,000-mark, death toll reaches 8

Chhatrapur: With 76 new COVID-19 positive cases reported in Ganjam district Wednesday, the total number of persons who have tested positive for the virus in the district crossed the 1,000-mark with the total tally reaching 1,031.

The number of active cases in the district has now reached 343. The district has also reported eight deaths due to the coronavirus disease so far.

On the other hand, Ganjam district administration has restricted the entry of public into all government offices in the district for the next 10 days from Wednesday after senior government officials tested positive for COVID-19 in the district.

Sources said that ten senior government officials who had frequently visited various government offices in the district due to official work are infected by coronavirus. Following which, both government officials and public are in a state of panic.

Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said, the decision to close all government offices was taken by the district administration because several senior officials are getting affected by COVID-19.

“From today onwards all government offices will be closed for citizens for next 10 days. We have to take this decision as our senior officers getting corona affected. We pray for their quick recovery,”Kulange tweeted Wednesday .

However, the Ganjam district administration had declared complete lockdown till June 30 to curb the community transmission of coronavirus.

The lockdown restrictions in the district are in force from 12.00 pm to 7.00 am every day till June 30, Kulange informed.
