Ganjam: The migration-prone Ganjam district in Odisha is close to registering 3,500 COVID-19 positive cases. The COVID-19 hotspot district reported 320 new cases Friday. The current COVID-19 cases in Ganjam districts stand at 1,674. So far 1,707 people have recovered from the disease.
The death toll in the district went up to 34 with four new fatalities at the TATA COVID-19 hospital at Sitalapalli in this town. All the four victims were males aged 41, 58, 48 and 32 respectively. Among them the 48 and 32 years old men were suffering from diabetes while the 41-year-old man was suffering from hypertension. However, the 58-year old man succumbed to COVID-19 only.
Some relief is expected as the district has received anti-viral drugs including Favipiravir and FabiFlu tablets as well as Remdesivir injections from the Health Department of Odisha.
Meanwhile, the five-day shutdown in two municipalities, 16 NACs and all the block headquarters is continuing in the district.
Two hundred health teams, each comprising a doctor and two Anganwadi workers are carrying out contact tracing, door-to-door health screening in the areas. Besides the teams are also ensuring isolation of suspected cases in the shutdown areas. Essential services have been exempted from the shutdown.
District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has provided 24X7 COVID-19 helpline number, 8118066370 for people showing symptoms of the virus or facing issues during home quarantine.
