Ganjam: With four more COVID-19 deaths recorded in this district Sunday, Ganjam has become the first district in Odisha to have more than 100 people fall to the contagion. The death toll in the district reached 103 Sunday.
Among the four death case, one was a 57-year old man, a 94-year old female, a 45-year old female and a 5-year old male who was suffering from hypertension and diabetes.
On the other hand, the district reported 320 fresh COVID-19 cases Sunday which pushed the total tally to 10,992. Out of the total cases, 3,402 patients are undergoing treatment at COVID-19 hospitals while 7,481 patients have recovered from the disease.
In view of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the district, the district administration Saturday sealed the borders of the district.
Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said all the entry and exit points in the district will be closed with immediate effect. Besides, there will be restrictions on entry into Berhampur city.
Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday inaugurated two dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in Ganjam district which has emerged as the hotspot of the disease in the state.
While one hospital will start functioning with 150 beds, including a 24-bed intensive care unit (ICU), at the new paediatric building of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, the other COVVID-19 hospital with the same bed strength will be operational at a private facility at Kanishi, a source in the district administration said.
