Digapahandi: A groom had to go straight from marriage pandal to quarantine centre because despite being a Covid positive patient he was tying knots.
The incident occurred at Daseipur village under Pattapur police limits in Ganjam district Friday.
According to a source, the groom, a resident of Daseipur village, had undergone Covid test four days ago because of the guidelines laid out by the district administration for marriage ceremony.
His marriage was fixed for May 21. All the arrangements were made for the ceremony. It was May 21 morning when the groom was informed that his report came out to be positive for Covid-19. However, the family members kept it secret and did not let anyone know of it, not even anyone from the bride side.
As per the rituals, the members of the bride side reached the groom’s house and then both the sides left for the venue.
While the bride and groom were on the marriage pandal with family members and guests sitting around the pandal, block development officer (BDO) Gayatridatta Nayak, tehsildar Srinivas Behera, Pattapur IIC Sabyasachi Mallick and his team appeared in the scene, leaving the bride side in shock.
The groom was asked to isolate himself from others to check the spread of the virus. He has been asked to go for a test after 30 days. The families have been asked to go for the marriage only if the report comes out to be negative for the infection.
