Sambalpur: A woman, who was returning home in a car after her discharge from a Covid-19 hospital, and her daughter were killed in a road mishap in Sambalpur district Monday. The deceased have been identified as Bijli Bhoi (45) and Raveena (20), residents of Tikilipada village under Hemgiri tehsil in Sundargarh district.
According to a source, the deceased had tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a private hospital in this town. The hospital authorities informed family members May 15, that Bijli has recovered from Covid-19 and she can be taken home.
The family members were elated on hearing the good news. Sunday, her son Vikash (23) and daughter Raveena left for Sambalpur to bring their mother back to home. Little did they know that fate was about to play a cruel game in them.
Vikas was driving the car when they were returning home. As they neared Sasan bypass, Vikas lost control of the car and rammed the vehicle into a stationary truck leaving all three grievously injured.
Police reached the spot and rescued all the three who were trapped inside the car. They were rushed to VIMSAR, Burla. But by then it was too late. Both Bijli and her daughter Raveena were pronounced dead on arrival. Vikas, whose condition is stated to be serious, is undergoing treatment. He is not aware that his mom and sister have already breathed their last.
Police have seized both the vehicles. They have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem and have launched a probe to ascertain the real cause behind the accident.
As the news of the accident reached Tikilipada village, a pall of gloom descended on it.
