Cowherd shot at in Koraput, Maoists’ hand suspected

Koraput: Unidentified men shot at a cowherd at Galigabadar village under Pottangi block in this district Saturday night, triggering panic among the locals.

The victim was identified as Laba Singh of Galigabadar village.

The incident occurred at around 6 PM when Laba was returning home after grazing his cows. The miscreants suddenly opened fire at him from behind in which he sustained bullet injuries on his back and fell unconscious.

On being informed, family members rescued him and rushed him to Pottangi community health center (CHC) and later shifted to Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput as his condition deteriorated.

Pottangi Police Station IIC Dev Kumar Gamang and Sunabeda SDPO visited the hospital to enquire about the health condition of Laba, whose condition is stated to be stable.

Laba said he had not seen the attackers as they opened fire from behind.

However, police cannot rule out the hand of Maoists in the attack as they are observing Martyrs’ Week from July 28-August 3 in the state.
