Kendrapara: A team from the state archaeological department found cracks on the base of the Neelachakra at Lord Baldevjew temple at Icchapur here.
The Neelachakra, having a circumference of 48 inches is placed on the top of the Lord Baldevjew temple. The matter came to the fore after a team comprising assistant engineer Subhendu Prusty and curator Rudraprasad Behera visited the temple last week.
Temple trustee Dhiren Kumar Sahu shared this with media Wednesday. He said the archeologists accompanied by a senior servitor climbed to the top of the temple and examined the base of the Neelachakra when they found it to have been damaged. The team was here over a letter by the executive officer Balabhadra Patri requesting them to examine the Neelachakra in the temple.
