Creditable finish for swimmers

Jakarta: Indian swimmers Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj finished a creditable fifth and seventh in the men’s 200m butterfly and 100m backstroke events respectively at the Asian Games here Sunday. Starting in lane number three, Prakash clocked 1:57.75 seconds while in the 100m backstroke event, Nataraj clocked 56.19s.

 

Eves hoopsters lose

The Indian women’s basketball suffered their second loss on trot as they were outdone 61-84 at the hands of Chinese Taipei in a Group A match at the Asian Games here, Sunday. India had earlier lost to Kazakhstan 61–79. The Indian eves trailed 28-33 at the half time after having led for some time at the GBK Basket Hall. However, Chinese Taipei came back strongly in the second half and put India on backfoot to race away with the game. They next play Unified Korea Monday and then take on hosts Indonesia August 23.

 

Prakash-Sawarn shine

Om Prakash and Sawarn Singh of India topped in the heats in men’s doubles sculls with the timing of 7:10.26 seconds while Dattu Baban Bhokanal finished second in the heats of men’s singles sculls in the Rowing competition of the Asian Games at Palembang, Sunday. Bhokanal was not at his best recorded 8:09.21s behind Japan’s Ryuta Arakawa, who recorded 7:56.08s. In the men’s pair heats, Malkeet Singh and Gurinder Singh were third fastest with 7:37.20s.
