Cuttack: The Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha Police Wednesday issued a set of advisories for people to check online fraud.
In the advisories, the CB has asked people not to share OTPs of their bank accounts and ATM passwords with others. Moreover, people have been told not to share details of their debit cards, credits cards, bank accounts and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) PIN numbers with unknown people.
People were advised not to seek the help of strangers for downloading online payment apps. It was also advised not to ignore messages sent from unknown mobile numbers. The CB has also asked people to lock their online payment apps to avoid misuse.
The CB instructed the people to keep tabs on presence of strangers inside ATM kiosks. This apart, people were also advised not to use their dates of birth, addresses and mobile numbers as ATM PINs. Similarly, people have been told not to send the details of their bank accounts, income tax and insurance accounts to others through email or mobile messages.
The CB has also advised people to keep an eye on the privacy policy and third party application rules of social media. “People should not share their secret information on social media. They should avoid friendship with unknown people on social media. Similarly, people should not operate more than one account for themselves and they must not do online transactions through free Wi-Fi services,” said a CB official.
