Crime-free election: 19 criminals held in last 10 days in Berhampur

Berhampur: Berhampur police has so far arrested 19 criminals and seized four pistols, eight crude bombs and six swords in the last 10 days as part of a crackdown on absconding and notorious criminals to ensure crime-free general elections, according to SDPO Bishnu Prasad Pati.

With the dates of the polls drawing near, the police have intensified their efforts to ensure a free and fair election. Besides monitoring strategic points, the police have intensified patrolling at many places.

“Our continuous efforts have thwarted several burglary efforts,” said Pati.

Pati said Sadar town police had arrested four criminals and seized pistols and other weapons from their possession, March 11 while Goshaninuagaon police nabbed five dacoits from Haladiapadar at Bridge Square, March 14.

Similarly, Badabazaar police picked up five miscreants from Haridakhandi Natula embankment, March 20 while Town police also apprehended five dreaded criminals from Suraj VIhar area, March 20 night.

Pistols, bombs, swords and other weapons were seized from their possession.

“The raids and patrolling will be intensified in the coming days. Checking at entry and exit points has been tightened. Vehicles are being searched and night patrolling has been intensified,” Pati added.
