Criminals again have a field day in city, three injured

Bhubaneswar : Just a day after the reign of terror unleashed by a gang of looters in the city, the criminals Saturday again engaged in several crimes here. Several persons were injured in two different incidents that occurred at different places in the city during the wee hours Saturday.

One of the victims, a security guard identified as Gyanendra Mallick, was deployed at a wedding hall at Keshura on the outskirts of the city under Sahid Nagar Police station limits.  According to sources, two bike borne miscreants arrived at the hall and enquired about the owner of the hall.

Later they asked him for some water to drink which he gave them. Meanwhile, the duo after throwing some notes on the ground asked Mallick to pick the notes from the ground. According to sources, the pillion rider shot bullets at his back when he bent to collect the notes. One bullet pierced his back just under the shoulders.  Some people nearby rushed to his help after hearing him scream.  The miscreants then bolted from the spot. They reportedly identified themselves as residents of Puri.

Mallick was rushed to Capital Hospital from where he was shifted to Apollo hospital by the owner of the marriage hall and the private security agency for which he works.

The IIC of Sahid Nagar Police station, Biranchi Narayan Pati told Orissa POST, “Investigation is on and we are trying to nab the culprits.  We are yet to find out the real cause of behind the attack. The attackers had covered their faces with masks so it will take some time to identify the culprits.”

In another incident, some unknown miscreants flung a big stone at two daily wagers who were sleeping at an OMFED stall near Master Canteen under Kharavela Nagar Police station limits. The miscreants later hit the victims with bamboo sticks leaving them injured severely. The daily wagers were rushed to Capital Hospital and later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The victims were Happy Behera of Aiginia area under Khandagiri Police station limits and Kuna Pandav of Village Ektala village in Nayagarh. Both Behera and Pandav have been staying at the bus stand area near PMG. Both the victim’s condition is reportedly serious as Happy has sustained brain and skull fracture and Pandav’s chest severely injured.

Meanwhile police sources claimed that initial probe hints towards a possible past enmity as the cause of the attack on the daily wagers. However, further progress in the matter will take place only after the wagers are conscious again.
