Kandhamal: CRPF personnel detonated a tiffin bomb during a combing operation in Kandhamal district Thursday night. Maoist hand is suspected in the planting of the bomb on the Phulbani-Gochhapada road.
Following the detection of the explosive, a special CRPF bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and made an attempt to pull out the tiffin bomb planted underground aside the road. As this did not succeed, they blasted the 5 kg bomb.
Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh said the CRPF found that the tiffin bomb was inactive. It meant the Maoists had planted it months back to target the central forces. “Search operations in the area have been intensified,” he added.
