Telkoi: A culvert built under MGNREGA scheme on the road connecting Padiapani and Bandhania villages under Telkoi block of Keonjhar district has collapsed leading to disrupted road connectivity in the area and damaging crops there.
According to locals, the residents of many villages in the area – especially those belonging to Purujoda, Raisuya and Bimala panchayats — depend on this road to stay connected with the outside world. A washed-out culvert on this stretch has made it impossible for people and vehicles to use this road.
This apart, free-flowing water has damaged standing crops as well.
Poor quality of construction has led to the collapse, said a villager.
On being asked, block development officer (BDO) Dilip Kumar Bora said, “An inquiry will be conducted to ascertain why the culvert collapsed. Meanwhile, we are also trying to repair it as soon as we can.”
