Koraput: The Central University of Orissa, Koraput, celebrated Wild Life Week-2018.
The department of bio-diversity and conservation of natural resources (DBCNR) organised an awareness rally from the railway station junction to tribal museum in Koraput in connection with the celebrations.
A talk on the topic ‘Importance of Wildlife, Their Threats and Conservation: Need of the Hour’ was also organised at the Tribal Museum Thursday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Sachidananda Mohanty chaired the programme. M Motilal, OFS, ACF, Jeypore was the main speaker. Prabhakar Adhikary, Secretary, PRAGATI and Prof. P.C Mohapatra, Director, COATS were the guests of honour. Prof. S.K.Palita, Dean, SBCNR delivered the keynote address. Dr Debabrata Panda, Assistant Professor coordinated the programme.
Prof Sachidananda Mohanty congratulated the department of bio-diversity and conservation of natural resources for successfully organising the awareness walk and meeting.
“To believe in the environment is to believe in breathing. Earth is threatened by ozone and carbon dioxide (CO2). Due to the invasion of the human being the ecosystem is now endangered. If nature survives then we survive. Hence we have to dedicate ourselves to the service of the earth,” he said.
M Motilal advised students to be role models in the conservation of nature. He said, “We have to prepare a micro-plan in villages for conservation of nature and have to work with the rural masses for preservation of nature.”
Adhikary spoke about the practical aspects of conservation. He said, “For effective conservation involvement of the people is very important.”
Prof PC Mohapatra talked about the flora and fauna of Koraput. “For conserving nature we need to work together,” he said.
Prof Palita in his keynote address said Koraput district is an important bio-diversity hotspot which requires concerted efforts for conservation.
A pledge-taking ceremony was organised at the Landiguda campus of the university where the university community took a pledge for creating a clean, green environment and to conserve wildlife.
OSD Prof Bhabani Prasad Rath and registrar Asit Kumar Das motivated students to join the awareness walk.
Dr Banerjee, Assistant Professor, DBCNR, proposed the vote of thanks. Any Latif, scholar, DBCNR compered the programme. PRO Phagunath Bhoi coordinated the awareness walk.
