CUO to start one new PG, 3 UG programmes

Bhubaneswar: The Central University of Odisha (CUO) is going to start three new undergraduate (UG) programmes and one postgraduate (PG) programme from the academic year 2023-24. The University will start four-year BSc programmes in Agriculture Science, Dairy Science, and Forest Management and a two-year PG/MBA programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The decision to launch the new programmes was taken after CUO Vice Chancellor Prof Chakradhar Tripathi had a meeting with the Union Ministry of Education, in New Delhi.

Agriculture, livestock, and forest products are the mainstay of the Koraput district economy, and more than 80 per cent of the population in the district directly depends on agriculture. The majority of farmers use traditional farming systems in Koraput. In 2012, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations accorded the status of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) to the traditional agricultural system being practiced in the Koraput region for promoting food security and conserving biodiversity.

“Keeping this in view, the University is going to start four-year BSc programmes in Agriculture Science, Dairy Science and Forest Management from the academic session 2023-24,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi. He said that Koraput is a prominent producer of rice, millet, ginger, coffee, black pepper, vegetable, jackfruit, strawberry, dragon fruit, apple and banana. But there is no adequate management and supply chain system for marketing these products at the national and international levels. The new two-year PG/MBA programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management will fulfil these demands.
