Dharmasala: Prohibitory orders (Section-144) Wednesday were imposed on five black granite quarries and one sand quarry under Dharmasala tehsil limits in Jajpur district to check illegal stone and sand quarrying. The area was artificially cut off from the main road to prevent further extraction of granites by the mafias.
The prohibitory orders were clamped after Dharmasala Tehsildar Saroj Kumar Panda paid a visit to 92 black granite quarries in the area.
Sources said the administration had not given lease to five stone quarries among the 92 for extraction of black granite. But illegal quarrying of black granite has reportedly been taking place in those quarries over last couple of years.
“The administration has promulgated an order under Section 144 of CRPC, prohibiting entry of any person to the mining areas including Anjira-1, Anjira-2, Sahanidihi, Bichhakhandi and Kusunpur. Carrying out any sort of mining like extraction, loading and transport of materials from black granite quarries is totally banned in these areas,’ said Panda.
