Gopalpur: Berhampur district police registered a murder case against five persons including three police officials over the custodial death of Ganesh Dakua on Golanthara police station premises in Ganjam district May 3 this year, police said Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Babuli Nayak, then police IIC of Golanthara police station, ASI Prakash Chandra Acharya, Dipti Prakash Jena, constable, Ajit Kumar Dash, vice-chairperson, Rangeilunda block and his brother Amit Kumar Dash.
A case 332/21 was registered in the Golanthara police station. Reports said the deceased’s mother Sobha Dakua had filed a petition in the High Court after she failed to get justice over her son’s death.
The matter came up for hearing in the High Court which issued a notice to the state home department, Berhampur SP and Golanthara police asking them to file a status report on the case.
The deceased had a spat with Ajit and Amit over some issue at a brick kiln under Golanthara police limits, May 3.
On being informed, Golanthara police picked up Ganesh from the place and brought him to the police station where they detained him in the reception room and questioned him about the fight he had with the siblings.
Later, Ganesh died in the custody the same day.
