Baripada: The Baripada town police Saturday arrested two delivery boys of a courier company on charges of cheating a customer by replacing his ordered mobile with a bathing soap.
The arrested youths have been identified as Abhisekh Behera and Prakash Chandra Naik, informed town police station IIC Ashok Kumar Nayak.
According to a report, a customer Bhimsen Mohanta had ordered a mobile phone online December 6. He was at that time confirmed that the product would reach him by December 13.
As per the orders, Bhimsen received the packet through courier well in time but the moment he opened the packet to see his mobile phone, the products in the packet left him confused and angry. He found a piece of soap and a cover of an old mobile phone from the packet.
Having been confirmed that he had been duped, Bhimsen sought police’s intervention. During probe, it was learnt that the delivery boys had replaced the mobile phone with soap.
Registering a case, the police launched an investigation and arrested the two delivery boys.
One laptop, four mobiles, Rs 2000 in cash and some other articles were seized from their possession.
The police have advised people to follow some tips to avoid being duped. “If anyone receives any product from a courier boy, they need to open the pack at the very presence of the courier boy. If the product inside the pack does not match to the ordered one, return the packet to the delivery boy then and there,” advised IIC Nayak.
