Bhubaneswar: Several irate customers threw torn currency notes in front of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Bhubaneswar Wednesday.
One of the enraged customers alleged that the RBI employees did not accept torn notes for exchange. He was told by the bank authorities that the counter for exchanging torn notes has been closed since October 3.
The man further said that as a response to this action by RBI, they flung torn notes in front of the Central bank.

Another customer complained that RBI employees used to redirect the customers to SBI or other local banks in order to exchange the torn notes. However, the private and public banks asked the customers to exchange the notes at RBI.
Following the incident, tension gripped the area. On being informed, cops from Kharvelnagar Police Station arrived at that spot and pacified the irate customers.
Comments from RBI authorities could not be obtained in this regard.
