Cuttack beats Khurda in single-day spike of COVID-19 cases for first time

Cuttack: Cuttack district Monday reported a record single-day spike of 589 new COVID-19 cases.

For the last few days, Khurda district topped the list of highest reported cases of coronavirus. However, with nearly 600 cases, Cuttack beat Khurda’s tally of 474 Monday.

The number of active cases in the district has now reached 2,305. However, 3587 patients have recovered from the disease.

The district also reported a death due to COVID-19 Monday – a 65-year old male who was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

With this, the death toll in the district reached 25 while four COVID-19 patients died due to other illnesses.

The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has now increased coronavirus testing in the city to 700 per day. As per the COVID-19 report released by CMC Sunday, 114 patients tested positive for COVID-19 under CMC area, for which the total tally of the city reached 3,218.

Other districts which had more than 100 cases in the last 24 hours are Khurda 474,  Jajpur 215, Koraput 181, Ganjam 179, Mayurbhanj 156, Rayagada 143, Sambalpur 104.

While cases in Ganjam are on a downward spiral, they are on the rise in Cuttack, Khurda and Rayagada.
