Cuttack emerge overall champs

Cuttack: Hosts Cuttack emerged overall champions with a total of 624 points in the 66th State Athletic meet, which concluded at the Barabati Stadium here Sunday. Sundargarh finished runners-up with a total of 372 points.

Ace sprinter Dutee Chand of KIIT scored a total of 1030 points to be adjudged as the best women’s athlete of the meet. Birupakshya Digal of Kandhamal garnered 880 points to bag the best men’s athlete trophy.

Divya Sandilya and Mohit Narayan of Paradip and Rashmita Mohanty of Cuttack created new meet records. Divya threw the hammer to 50.58 metres in the women’s category while Mohit threw to a distance of 38.06 metres in the U-16 boys’ category. In the women’s 3000 metres triple chase Rashmita clocked 12:41.7 seconds.

Odisha clinch silver

Odisha women’s team created history after winning silver medal in the 29th Federation Cup National Kho-Kho Championship, which concluded at Midnapore, West Bengal, Sunday.

Odisha eves went down fighting to mighty Maharashtra 6-9 in the final. Sabila Khatun of Odisha was adjudged best runner in the final.

Medals galore

Odisha bagged a total of 12 medals including three gold, six silver and three bronze in the IIIrd Open International Taekwondo Championship in Kolkata. Thirty eight participants from the state participated in the competition.

Team announced

Odisha Volleyball Association (OVA) announced Sunday 24-member men’s and women’s state teams for the Senior National Volleyball Championship to be held at Chennai, January 2-10.
