Cuttack finance firm IIFL loot case: Mastermind woman officer including six others arrested

Cuttack: In a major crackdown, the Twin City Commissionerate Police arrested the prime accused Lala Amrut Sagar Ray and six of his accomplices Wednesday evening, in connection with the sensational India Infoline Finance Ltd (IIFL) dacoity case in Cuttack district.

Notably, the arrested include a 34-year-old woman Nilima Lenka who works as a gold valuer at Nayasarak branch of IIFL in the city.

The five other arrested are Kabi Prasad Pradhan, Rajkishore Sahoo, Pabitra Behera, Prakash Kumar Sahoo and Santosh Kumar Bhoi.

Worthy to note, Ray and his accomplices materialised the dacoity plan by threatening a staffer of the firm with a toy gun. Acting on a FIR lodged by the firm’s territory manager Tapas Ranjan Swain, Lalbagh police registered a case in this connection and initiated a probe.

According to the police sources, cash of Rs 5 lakh, three kilograms of gold ornaments, an Audi car, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones including a toy gun were recovered from their possession.

“The prime accused Ray is a resident of Markatnagar area, who works as gold appraiser at IIFL here. He has availed personal loan from the branch and misappropriated mortgaged gold ornaments of public”, Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh said.

After the misappropriation assumed large proportions and when Ray realised that he will not be able to manage the firm’s audit, he hatched the plot along with another Rajan Kumar Behera, Singh added.
