Bhubaneswar: The Silver city and Cuttack district at large are witnessing a spurt in novel coronavirus cases at a time when other hotspot districts have started reporting less number of cases.

In the last week, there has been a surge in the cases, more prominently in Cuttack city. This comes after the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) announced ramping up tests through more antigen tests, allowing private clinics to do the test and also introducing two more mobile testing vans.

The city, which saw just 22 cases July 30, reported 143 new cases of Covid-19 August 4. The infection graph seems to have taken a northward trend since the first week of August.

The Cuttack district, which used to report cases below 55 by July end, also started reporting cases above 100 every day since August 1, the data from the Health and Family Welfare department said.

Data suggest that most of the cases from the district are reported from the Cuttack city alone. The district has reported a total of 2,731 confirmed cases of the viral disease.

The district till now has reported a total of 11 Covid deaths and four deaths of nCoV positive patients for reasons other than Covid-19. According to the recent statement of Saurav Garg, COVID Observer in Cuttack, the district is well equipped with more than 6,000 beds at dedicated hospitals, COVID Care Centres, COVID Care Homes at different regions to cater to the needs of the patients.

The Cuttack city in the last few weeks has seen increase in Covid Hospital beds and is likely to add two more Covid Care Centres to cater to the needs of COVID patients.
