Cuttack: The Commissionerate of Police Monday arrested a person for his suspected involvement in the brutal murder of three persons in Cuttack last week.
Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh said Narayan Sahoo (35) of Ganjam was arrested after verification of CCTV footage and circumstances which revealed that he was the prime accused in all the three murder cases. The suspect is under interrogation and further corroborative evidence is under investigation, Singh said. He said Sahoo was staying in Cuttack for the last two to three months but left the city July 24 and since then he was absconding.
According to sources, the killer underwent severe mental pressure after repeated failures in various businesses he engaged in at Belaguntha. Consequently, Sahoo’s wife along with the children went to his in-law’s house a few days later. Subsequently, his relatives brought him to Cuttack for treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
But, he refused to be admitted in the hospital and started living in a shanty at Cuttack. He was living as a rag picker in Cuttack. The cops caught him from Nayagarh.
The attack, the DCP said, took place when the deceased persons were fast asleep between 4 am and 4.30 am. The injuries were found in the neck and the forensic examination ascertained that similar weapon was used in all three cases.
Police registered cases in Mangalabag and Chauliaganj police stations in Cuttack after the murder of three persons July 23 and 24 last and started investigation into the murder.
Police arrested Sahoo after verification of CCTV footage, subsequent conduct and circumstantial evidence found that he was the prime accused in all three cases.
When asked whether the accused is a ‘psycho killer,’ Singh said, prima facie evidence suggests he was not suffering from any mental illness. However, the DCP said interrogation is on to know more details on his activities.
