Cuttack: A youth from Cuttack was booked Sunday morning under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly posting ‘derogatory’ content against Hindu goddess Durga on Facebook.
The accused has been identified as Raj Mallick.

Notably, Cuttack unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had earlier lodged a complaint in this regard with Cantonment police. Acting on the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 153(A), 292(A), 295(A), 505, 120(B) of the IPC and Section 67 of IT Act.
“Some miscreant groups and antisocial elements are mischievously posting hateful messages on social media, thereby hampering religious harmony in the society. Stringent legal action will be taken against the culprit as well as persons who are liking and sharing this offensive posting. Citizens are requested to maintain social harmony and peace,” tweeted Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.
The Cantonment police has filed a case (No.-110/2020) in this connection and launched further investigation.
