District Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani took the administrative action against the multi-specialty healthcare facility after the hospital authorities failed to furnish satisfactory explanations on the show-cause notice served to it by the Cuttack district administration.

The hospital will remain closed until its management comes up with fire-safety and other requisite licenses. Patient treatment and laboratory tests have been restricted here until further orders, Chayani said.

Cuttack district administration has formed a team which will regularly inspect fire-safety arrangements in private hospitals in the city. The team will start working very soon, the Collector expressed.

Notably, a major fire had broken out February 1 on the top floor of the hospital that had triggered panic among patients, attendants and staff. The hospital was operating without a fire-safety certificate.
