Puri: The district child welfare committee (CWC) has asked Puri superintendent of police (SP) and district child protection officer to submit reports on the alleged roughing up of a minor girl by police.
The Sachetan Nagarik Manch, a voluntary organisation, had lodged a complaint with the CWC and urged the latter to take action against the errant police officer.
According to the complaint, a resident under the Town police limit lodged an FIR alleging that someone had abducted his 15-year-old daughter a few months ago. The complainant, somehow, came to know that his daughter was writing this year’s high school certificate (HSC) examinations at Puri Zilla School.
On being informed by the complainant, a few personnel of Town police reached near the school March 8. They tried to detain the minor girl soon after the examination.
A woman officer of Town police had forcibly dragged the minor girl to a PCR van when she raised an objection. “The minor girl was treated as a dreaded criminal by the police officer. The administration should probe the incident and take appropriate action against the errant officer,” said the complaint.
The outfit has urged the CWC to arrange for proper counselling of the minor girl and provide compensation to her family.
