Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Women and Child Development (W&CD) department has asked the Child Welfare Committee of Kandhamal to help rehabilitate the 13-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby in her residential school hostel in Daringbadi.
Speaking on the issue, at the 26th Foundation Day celebrations of the State Women’s Commission, W&CD Minister Prafulla Samal said, “The Daringbadi incident is unfortunate, and we are saddened. The girl should not have undergone this trauma, whatever the reason behind it. The SC and ST department is taking all steps to punish the criminals, and is also providing help to the survivor. Our department has also asked the CWC to keep in touch with the girl and extend all help to her.”
Samal praised the state Women’s Commission for doing a great job despite constraints. He said the four-member panel needs expansion as it is facing problems due to the rising number of cases every year.
He said the commission also required better infrastructure. He said the government will meet all basic requirements of the commission.
The gathering was also addressed by Anu Garg, the chairperson of the commission and principal secretary of the department. Many former and current members of the commission were also present.
