Cyber criminals swindle Rs 90K from woman’s account

Bhubaneswar: A middle-aged woman in the Capital city reportedly fell into the trap of cyber criminals who siphoned off around Rs 90,000 from her bank account. The victim lodged a complaint with Khandagiri police here, Thursday.

According to sources, the lady identified as Pramila Patra is a housewife who has been residing at Dumduma under Khandagiri police limits. Patra has her bank account at Dumduma branch of State Bank of India (SBI). Thursday morning, Patra was shocked while drawing cash from a nearby ATM, which declined her request by showing the message of ‘insufficient balance’.

She had over Rs 90,000 left in her account after her last transaction in August.

An upset Patra rushed to the SBI branch and informed the bank officials about the matter. The officials told her that Rs 89,000 has been debited from her account through multiple transactions between August 8 and September end. The bank officials advised the lady to seek the help of police. The victim claimed that she had not received any call or even SMS from the bank during the period regarding the withdrawal of the amount on different dates.

She lodged a written complaint with the police who, after going through her complaint, advised her to submit a formal request to the bank manager and higher authorities to get the details of the accounts against which the transactions were made.
