Bhubaneswar: For the first time, a short film titled ‘Desh Dosti Etc’, dedicated to the 2019 general elections, was released on YouTube and a Facebook page by award-winning film production studio “BnR Films” on the eve of the first phase of elections – Wednesday.
Award-winning film director Biswanath Rath has written, filmed, edited and directed this short film. The movie is produced by BnR Films, founded by Biswanath and Archana Rath. The short film features Ashish Kumar, Sonal Khare, Eswari Murty, Sumat and Udit Tuteja.
Stating that ‘Desh Dosti Etc’ belongs to the ‘drama’ genre, Biswanath said, “The climate has become too hot, not because summer has arrived. This year, the reason is different. It’s election time. After all, the world’s largest democracy is preparing itself for elections that will decide who will rule the country for the next five years.” He added that the film was made in just three weeks and hopes that the response to this film will go a long way in motivating people to come up with even better short films.
Recently, Biswanath’s international documentary ‘Kotpad Weaving: The Story of a Race Against Time’ received two awards – one in Kashmir and the other in the USA. His first short film, ‘Kar Bhalaa’, has garnered a total of 41 international film festival nominations and won three awards.
‘Desh Dosti Etc’ has received wide response from the netizens, who praised its for its message, presentation, theme and release timing. “Though it is primarily meant for social media, like our other award-wining short films, we also aspire to submit the film to the international film festival circuit,” Biswanath said.
