Cyclist killed, two others critically injured as speeding truck runs over in Cuttack

Cuttack: In an untoward incident, a cyclist was killed on the spot and two others were critically injured early Saturday morning after a truck ran over them and fell off a bridge on state highway (SH-60) in Cuttack district.

The mishap took place between Phulnakhara and Niali.

The deceased was identified as Sarat Chandra Dalei (60) of Anlo village under Niali police limits in the district. The two injured are known to be the driver and helper of the truck.

According to an eye-witness, Dalei was on his way to a local weekly market at Kaliaghai area. He was hit by a vegetable-laden truck on its way to Niali at around 6.30am.

The driver of the ill-fated truck lost control over wheels. As a result, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the left side of the bridge.

The injured truck driver and helper were immediately rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by locals.

On the other hand, irate locals have blocked the road demanding compensation for the deceased.
