Cyclone ‘Fani’: Leaves of government officials cancelled in Puri  

Puri:  While it is yet to be cleared as to what impact ‘Fani’ might have on Puri district, the district administration has been asked to remain alert to tackle any eventualities — keeping it on its toes.

The leaves of all government officials and employees have been cancelled in the district to ensure proper coordination in case of a relief and rescue operation is necessitated.

Besides, people living in coastal areas, particularly those living in Astarang, Krushnaprasad, Chandrabhaga blocks along with low lying areas in Puri town, are likely to be shifted to safe places and cyclone shelter homes, if the situation arises, said an official of the district administration.

He further added that designated officials have been directed to ensure supply of dry food, necessary items, drinking water, medicine, cattle feed.

As many as ten pumps will be pressed into service to drain out excess accumulation of rain water, in case of heavy rainfall. Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team will also be engaged to rescue affected people and animals.

All other necessary steps are being taken on a war footing to tackle any kind of eventualities, it was learnt.

It may be mentioned here that Collector Jyotiprakash Das had convened a preparatory meeting Monday to assess the facilities in place to face the cyclone. He had also directed to the concerned officials to ensure facilities are in place to see uninterrupted power supply and restoration of communication facilities.
