Anandapur: Personnel belonging to Anandapur police in Keonjhar district claimed that they busted a dacoit gang arresting four members of it Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip off, that the gang was planning to commit burglary, Anandapur police conducted raids on a hideout and arrested four members. Taking advantages of darkness, two others managed to give the police a slip.
A billhook, five lathis and five mobile phones were recovered from their possession. Police also seized the vehicle they had planned to use during the crime.
Police sources said, the gang came in a Bolreo and was waiting for cattle traders were returning from Fakirpur weekly market with an intention to rob them.
Those arrested have been identified as Jagabandhu Barik and Ajit Kumar Jena of Ichhapur village in Bhadrak district, Sujit Kumarmallick of Ato village and Babu Jena of Balabhadraprasad village in Dhamra area. The absconding accomplices are Chitta Murmu and Prasanna Majhi of Bhairanibeda area under Thakurmunda police limits in Mayurbhanj district, informed IIC Sudarshan Panda.
Talking about the modus operandi of the gang, Panda said they would usually target businessmen returning from weekly markets.
A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the absconding duo, he further informed.
