Dacoits strike Kapilas temple

Dhenkanal, Dec 24: Miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10,000 and cash worth Rs 20,000 from the famous Shri Shri Chandrashekharjew shrine atop Kapilas hill in Dhenkanal late Tuesday night.

Sadar SDPO Rajkishore Dora, endowment officer Duryodhan Panigrahi and Gondia police rushed to the spot and started a probe. Later, a forensic squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service. The incident has triggered shock waves among devotees and servitors who flayed the administration for not making proper security arrangements.

Temple rituals were delayed by six hours. The miscreants broke open the lock of Goddess Parbati’s temple in the precincts of the main temple and looted the deity’s gold ornaments including eight silver bangles, one silver pendant and two silver earrings. They broke the lock of the main temple, but failed in their loot bid.

Before fleeing, they stole gold ornaments and donation money worth Rs 9,069 kept in a box inside the office of the trust board members and Rs 10,000 from box of the servitors.
