Bhubaneswar: Ahead of general elections, Paradip MLA and expelled Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Damodar Rout Friday formally announced the formation of a new political outfit – Biju Samata Kranti Dal.
Rout made the announcement here at a press conference in the presence of former Union minister and Samata Kranti Dal founder Braja Kishore Tripathy and Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) chief Jagneswar Babu. Tripathy will be the president of the party, while Rout is the campaigning committee chief of the new party.
“The main aim of the party will be to eradicate corruption and promoting the ideologies and principles of the former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik,” Rout said. He also said that the party will spread across the state. Alleging that the Naveen Patnaik government has become corrupt, Tripathy said, “People have made up their mind to change the government.”
The Paradip MLA also said that former DGP Prakash Mishra and his brother will join his party soon though Mishra refuted it.
Rout was expelled from BJD September 12 for his alleged ‘anti-party’ activities. He was accused of making anti-party statements by alleging irregularities in sapling plantation, procurement of polythene sheets for Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited, cooperative banks and the health sector.
