DAV, IRC Village in pre-quarters

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: DAV Public School, Unit-VIII and Govt Boys’ High School, IRC Village, Bhubaneswar entered the pre-quarters of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament by winning their respective matches at the Unit-VI Ground here Monday.

In the first match, DAV pipped Rama Krushna High School 1-0. Punya Sloka Panda scored the all important goal. OM Prakash Mohanty of the winning team won the man of the match award for his brilliant goal keeping.

In the second match, Govt Boys’ High School blanked Xavier’s International School 2-0. Taslin Khan and Badal struck once each for the winners. Taslin was adjudged as the man of the match.

Amrutjay, Abhishek win

Top seed Amrutjay Mohanty and unseeded Abhishek Mohapatra won their respective matches to enter the quarterfinals of the FALCON Super Series tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Monday.

Amrutjay thrashed K Dhruv Advaith of Andhra Pradesh 6-0, 6-0, while Abhishek defeated Dhanush Patel of Gujarat 6-1, 4-6, 4-1.

Nrushad props MCA

Nrushad Shaikh (86, 186b, 9×4) hit a patient half century to help MCA Secy XI score 249 runs for the loss of six wickets on the first day of their three-day long match against Orissa in the Bhausaheb Nimbalkar Trophy cricket tournament at the Pune Club Ground in Pune, Monday.

Sangram Atitkar (58, 118b, 10×4) also made useful contribution with the bat. Jayant Behera (3/50) was the pick of the Orissa bowler.

Manisha bags gold

Orissa bagged a total of four medals in the 13th National Inter-District Junior Athletics Championship, which concluded at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Monday.

On the last day Orissa bagged three more medals. Manisha Mersel of Sundargarh bagged a gold medal in the long jump event by jumping to a distance of 5.08 metres. Dulamani Karji of the same district won a silver in the U-16 girls’ 400 metres race. Sankar Singh of the Sundargarh bagged a bronze in the U-16 boys’ 100 metres.

Rugby tourney

Orissa Rugby Football Association (ORFA) will organise the All India Junior National Rugby Tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here September 19-23. Altogether 450 participants from 16 states across the country will participate in the tournament.
