DAV, Sainik cruise into quarters

Bhubaneswar Sept 9: DAV, Kalinganagar and Sainik School entered the quarterfinals of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament, winning their respective matches convincingly at the Unit-VI Ground here Wednesday.

In the first match, DAV blanked Unit-VI High School 2-0. DAV dominated the match completely scoring in both the halves. Bighnesh Kumar struck in the 26th minute, while Sriram Priyadarshi found the back of the net in the 46th minute. Gobinda Murmu of the winning team bagged the man of the match award for his beautiful goal keeping.

In the second match, Sainik School prevailed over St. Joseph School 2-0. Raja Kumar Balmiki opened the account as early as the second minute. Santosh Kumar Balmiki doubled the lead in the 43rd minute to seal the fate of the lop-sided match. Pritesh Pradhan of the winning team was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant soccer skill.

Sports Quiz

Unit-VI Athletic Association will organise the Kalinga Marine Sports Quiz competition at the Unit-VI High School premises September 13. The schools participating in the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament are eligible to participate in the competition.

Tennis tourney

Gujarat and West Bengal duo of Vidhi Jani and Aneesha Mukherjee and Telangana duo of Thanushitha Galiveti and Sanjana Sirmala entered the girls’ doubles final of the FALCON Super Series badminton tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Wednesday.

In the first match, Vidhi and Aneesha beat the pair of Shatavisa Ghosh from West Bengal and Naisha Srivastav from Karnataka 7-5, 6-0.

In the second match the Telangana duo beat the Maharashtra pair of Rijul Sidanale and Bhumika Tripathy 6-2, 6-4.
